THE PATHS OF SIFNOS
The
whole island is full of small paths, which wait for the aspiring
travelers to enjoy them. Many of these paths, on the perimeter of
the island, lead to many magic little bays and to beautiful retreats
for the lovers of adventure or for those who desire to know the
island inch by inch.
In order to enjoy the rare beauties of the landscape of Sifnos, it
is worth
walking
starting from Apollonia for 1-3 hours walking trough the old
picturesque paths (some sites are accessible only from paths and/or
by boat).
Only
this way can
one visit Panagia Poulati, Agios Sostis at the old mines of gold,
Foinikidi, the ancient Citadel of Agios Andreas, Panagia Toso Nero,
Taxiarchis of Skafi, Agia Marina in Flambouro, Agios Ioannis in
Mavro Chorio, Agios Nikolas in Aerina, Fikiada, tou Kontou, the 55
ancient towers
of the island
(6th-
3rd
cent. B.C.) etc.
Finally,
it is worth taking a walk at the relatively
short path from Glipho of
Faros to
Apokofto of
Chrissopigi or vice
versa.
One short stop in Agios Charalambos, gives the walker the chance to
feel that he is standing on the balcony of the Aegean Sea.
It
takes patience in order
to know Sifnos and to discover its beauties! That’s why Sifnos is
not an island to visit with a program. However, it is ideal for
wanderings, for people who know how to appreciate what is
there and who do not want to get impressed at a glance! They shall
discover the light and the mysterious beauty of Sifnos! |
